The Nine Wives present a full-length album, recorded under the direction of renowned producer Pieter Kloos, serving as a retrospective and reinterpretation of Veneman's repertoire from the past few decades. The eponymous record features reimagined versions of songs from his well-known duos and bands, original compositions written for films and theatre plays, and brand-new material. The trio gives each song a surprising, refreshing, and above all organic treatment, stripping them down to their essence before rebuilding them with power and character.
The result is an energetic live sound — Woody on steroids, like a folk Hulk bursting out of his leather jacket. The songs are extremely catchy yet retain their rough edges, perfect in their imperfection: rocking and swinging, yet also melodic and compelling.
